School Performance Tours
This term we welcomed a School Performance Tour to the school for all students to enjoy. The show we welcomed was called “Look how we’ve changed” and students were entertained by our guest who talked to them about common things from the past and how they have changed into our modern times.

Student Voice Forum
Our Term 1 Student Voice Forum was held on Thursday 13th March, the topic being sports afternoons at Proserpine State School. Mr Nosworthy was our guest at the forum and students worked through a number of questions around their sporting preferences – both those currently played at school and others that interest the students - and ways that these may be incorporated into Friday afternoon sport time in the future.

Harmony Day
A Harmony Day free dress day was held on Monday 17th March by Student Council, promoting Harmony Week in the school by inviting all students to dress in orange for the day and talk about cultural diversity in our country. Students were encouraged to bring along a gold coin donation with funds raised being donated to the Salvation Army for their ongoing work across Australia.

Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher interviews were held on Tuesday 01st April. It was wonderful to have so many parents book in to come and share their child’s learning journey with our staff. We really value the opportunity to talk through student progress with our students and parents and share their successes and future goals. A big thanks to our P&C who came along on the evening to talk to parents and promote the great work they do here in our school. Without our P&C many of the fantastic extra-curricular opportunities we have here at our school would be unable to go ahead, so we encourage all families to consider becoming active with the P&C to ensure the continuation of these activities into the future.
Easter Bonnet Parade
One of the best days of the school year, the Easter Bonnet Parade is so much fun and is a great display of the creativity of our students and their families. Please enjoy some photos from the parade.

QParents

Thank you to everyone who has accessed the the QParents site using the link sent out by our office staff to register to use QParents. We will be using this to complete future excursion paperwork, 3rd party consent forms and for many other purposes. If you have not yet registered, we urge you to do so, remembering that you need to do this on a computer to ensure you can complete the process in full.
ANZAC DAY
Looking forward into Term 2 we would like to promote the ANZAC Day March on Friday 25th April. We would love to have as many of our students as possible come along to march with us on the day – meeting at the Metropole Drive-thru from 10:15 am.
Students should be in full school uniform with our school’s bucket hat for the march and can be collected from the lawn near the Cenotaph at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Year 5 students who are planning to run for School Captain in 2026 are strongly encouraged to come along and join in to show their commitment to positively representing our school.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing everyone back fresh and ready for Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April.
Kind regards

CURRICULUM MATTERS
Next term, in English, all students from Prep to Year 6 will be engaging with reading and writing informative texts. Students will learn about:
- purpose of informative texts eg to provide information,
- audience (Who might want/ need to read this text?)
- structure eg title, heading, sub-headings, introduction, body, conclusion, paragraphs, visual images
- language features eg topic specific vocabulary, objective language (facts not feelings), noun groups, precise verbs
Students in Years 2 – 6 will be creating multimodal texts which means it will combine two or more modes of expression to convey meaning. This can include various forms such as written language, images, audio, video and interactive elements.
From Years 1 – 6, students will have choice of topic and presentation mode. It’s important to offer choices as this empowers student engagement and, as such, is a significant part of our teaching and learning. Understandably, our Preppies are still learning to write and they will use words and images to report on their topic. Those Prep children with chooks at home will have SO much to offer.
Below are the topics for each year level if you would like to help your child/ren by reading books, watching reels or clips on the internet, viewing documentaries. On the holidays, if your kids say they’re bored, they could make 2D/ 3D art to share with their class on these topics, create a boardgame, make a puzzle and bring along in Week 1 to share with their classmates. Getting excited about learning is a wondrous thing to see!
Prep | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | Year 4 | Year 5 | Year 6 |
Hens | Insects | Butterflies, Crocodiles or Turtles | Australian Animals | Marine Animals | Natural Disasters | Influential Australians |
Also in Term 2, every student from Prep to Year 6 will have a Maths assessment in Number. Years 2, 3, 4 and 6 will also have assessment in Measurement. To help those students in Years 2, 3 and 4, you could make it explicit when using calendars, reading times on analogue and digital clocks, talking about durations of time in your day to day lives eg It will take us 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to Mackay, so what time will we have to leave? In Year 6, the students have to interpret and use timetables and plan an itinerary in Measurement.
FYI English and Mathematics are Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. All other learning areas are Version 8.4.
An ANZAC Day display will be set up in the Resource Centre for Weeks 1 – 2 next term. We have commemorative badges for the first 30 students who bring something along to add to the display. It could be a piece of art, creative writing eg poem, diary entry, a 3D model of the trenches, a copy of a family artefact with an explanation. Parents are more than welcome to help, and we’d love you to encourage participation. Also, Years 3 and 5 students in particular are encouraged to watch, or join in, the ANZAC Day March in Proserpine or Airlie Beach as part of their learning in HASS and leadership. This will greatly assist their demonstration of knowledge, understanding and skills in Term 2. Nothing beats hands-on, active participation and real-life connections for learning!

Sports News Term 3

This term we saw our year 2s, 4s and 6s swim. To say the water was enjoyable; definitely not every week. Did the kids try their absolute best in chilly water- 100%. Swimming cannot happen without a very tightly organized timetable, teachers’ flexibility and parents valuing its importance to the curriculum. This year we were fortunate to offer swimming free thanks to the Rural and Remote Access Program funding.
The next swimming will occur in Term 4 for 1s, 3s and 5s.
On swimming, at our school we have one talented swimmer who has recently been to Brisbane to represent NQ at the 10-12 years Queensland School Swimming Championships. He had 5 individual swims with 3 personal best times. Congratulations Harris.
REPRESENTATIVE SPORT
Do you have a sporty child? Do you have a child who trials for many sports with a range of talents and abilities? Do you juggle your calendar to ‘fit it all in’?
This term has been just that- I personally am out of colours to change on my calendar from postponed events due to the weather. Term 1 is traditionally wet; but not this wet. We do our very best to accommodate and make these changes based on safety and providing quality trials. Thankyou for working with us, appreciating that we teachers are doing our best to volunteer weekends and after school to provide these opportunities. It has not all been grim and we have had some successful trials. We were lucky to hold AFL, netball and PDSSA and WDS rugby league with a number of boys selected in the 11s and 12s Rugby League team. This team will travel to Ayr on ANZAC day long weekend with Mrs Henshaw. We wish these boys all the best.
Next term save these dates: This is just the first 4 weeks!!
22nd April- rescheduled Proserpine Sub trial at St Catherine’s (all students have already been selected)
23rd April- Northern AFL trial in Townsville. Good luck Eddie!
27th and 28th April- Northern Rugby League trials in Ayr. Good luck Nate, Eddie and Cruz.
2nd May- Cross Country TBA
6th May- 11 years Rugby League in Townsville. Good luck to Van, Eddie and Cruz
7th May- Northern Rugby Union in Townsville
9th May- Whitsunday District touch football at the Whitsunday Sports Park
12th May- Whitsunday District Tennis (direct nomination) in Bowen
16th May- Softball at Proserpine State School
Congratulations to these students who have or will be representing our Proserpine, Whitsundays and/or Northern region. We cannot wait to hear your success and have more results in term 2.

Music
The ANZAC Choir, comprised of students from Yrs 3-6 have been rehearsing every Monday at Morning Tea to perform at our ANZAC Ceremony in Week 1, Term 2.
We have also been offered the opportunity to have some students be involved in the Whitsunday Regional Council GET READY Song project which aims to raise awareness about disaster preparedness and foster community resilience through music. The choir students have had parents fill in an Expression of Interest form to be considered which will go to the WRC and they will pick the students who are eligible. We look forward to hearing the outcome of this exciting project and which of our students are picked.
Enjoy the holidays!

What Happened In General
Year 3

Thursday 1st April 2025
Year 3 went to see Allegra Bradley from PSHS, at our school library to explain about ANZAC day.She told us that ANZAC stood for Australia and New Zealand Army corps. She explained why its important to commemorate Anzac Day on the 25th April each year. One reason is that army men and women fought for us to have freedom and peace, so we should never forget them. We were amazed, to hear about Private Francis Adrian Oscar Herbert Ross, who went to Proserpine State school. He went to the army at 15 years old, and unfortunately died when hewas only 17. I was interested to hear about what sacrifices men and women made for theircountry and how hard it was to live life in war. She gets to go and explore the World War 1 battlefield and see where the Australian soldiers were in war. We presented her with Commemorative crosses that we decorated with poppies for her totake to memorial sites on the other side of the world.

Year 6
Connecting Friendships in 6AK
Even though we are all different we can still fit together!
This term 6AK have been doing lots of activities to help us to connect and learn from one another.
As an example, we have done lots of discussions in book club, sharing our ideas about the book we choose and getting more comfortable with speaking with others in our class.
Friday afternoons have been enjoyable, because we do Year 6 sport. We work as a team and help one another. 6AK is connecting with one another through similar interests. We have been drawing and creating a class art gallery. So far it has a collaborative fish tessellation artwork, where everybody got to decorate their own fish.
6AK has been loving ‘positive primers’ every morning, where we get a random partner and share our ideas and interest.
Everyone in 6AK has had a brilliant term of learning and we look forward to more connecting, creating and collaboration in term 2.

Donations

The school is in desperate need of black boys shorts.
Due to lots of wet weather we have had many kids come in quiet wet and we have provided them with new shirts and shorts for the day. Unfortunately this has now depleted out spare clothing. If you have any old boys school shorts that no longer fit your child, we would love to take them off your hands.

The end of an era
As this is my final newsletter contribution, I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to be a part of a great committee and Great school.
In the 13 years I have had my own children attend and the few years I attended throughout my schooling, I can proudly say I have loved being a part of the best school in QLD.
I have loved every moment of being involved with the P&C from when I started work at the tuckshop in 2018 to becoming President and working alongside an awesome group of people to help organise:
- Fete
- Colour Runs
- Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Stalls
- Big Morning Outs
- Carols by Candlelight
- Fundraiser at Drakes
- Softball catering
- 125-year celebration
To be able to be a part of ANZAC Day ceremonies, Academic Award presentations, Leadership ceremonies and so much more.
I will truly miss being so involved; however, I have great faith in our new committee of Maria, Sarah, Fran and Vicki to continue to represent our school with pride and provide some amazing fundraising opportunities for the whole school and community.
I will see you all out and about in our wonderful community

QKR APP
Many parents and carers do use the QKR APP for ordering Tuck-shop and Uniforms from our uniform shop. Can we ask that you please make sure your Childs class details are up to date so we can get your orders to them swiftly and without mistakes.

Volunteers

We are seeking as many new volunteers as possible this year, even if you can only spare 1 day a month. We need volunteers for the following.
- Tuck-shop
- Uniform Shop
- Mother’s Day Stall
- Father’s Day Stall
There is a process to become a volunteer at our School. You will need to do your Mandatory Student Protection Training through the office. This only takes about 10 minutes once a year. Please note that any volunteer who is not a parent of a student at the school e.g. Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles or Friends will require a blue card. This is free, and we can help you to get this just contact the P&C for assistance.

P & C General Meetings
We welcome all parents, carers and teachers to our General Meetings. These meetings will be held in the library from 4.30pm on Tuesday of weeks 3 and Wednesday of weeks 7 each term. We would love to see as many new faces as possible and ask you to come along and share ideas, listen to information from our LEAD team on our school’s progress and achievements.
If you need to reach out to your P&C, please do not hesitate to contact us via email.

Tuckshop/Uniform Shop News

WOW what a busy term it’s been.
This term the support that we have had from the whole school community has been amazing. We’d love to thank all our wonderful volunteers such as Kerrie Dunbavan, Emilee Large and Rosie O’Connell, your help is so appreciated.
While Danielle’s been out due to medical reasons, Kylie has really stepped up and has helped our tuckshop continue to run as smoothly as possible. The kids have absolutely loved the return of our jelly cups and the teachers were treated with fantastic snack boxes for the parent/ teacher interviews.

To celebrate the end of term we held our red food loose change day on the last day and the kids loved the special treats.

We hope you all have an amazing Easter , have a great break and we’ll see you all in Term 2 😊
