ANZAC Day – Thursday
On Thursday 24th April, students, staff, and community members gathered for a heartfelt ANZAC Day ceremony, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women.
The event began with a solemn march by our local Air Cadets—a highlight that never fails to impress. Our school captains delivered their first official speeches with poise, reflecting on the ANZAC values of courage, mateship, and resilience.
Musical tributes by our school choir, led by Mrs Bess Nolan, and the Proserpine High School band, conducted by Mr Idris Harriers, added a moving atmosphere with their performance of The Spirit of the ANZACs by Lee Kernaghan.
Guest speaker Lyn Burke, a local war historian, captivated the audience with the story of the AE2 submarine’s daring role in the Gallipoli campaign. Students especially praised her talk, calling it their favourite part of the ceremony.
Handmade wreaths were laid by class representatives—including playgroup—symbolising our school’s collective remembrance. Many students also proudly participated in the community ANZAC Day march, marking a record turnout.
The Spirit of the ANZACs truly lives on at Proserpine State School.

P & C Colour Run
Rain Couldn’t Wash Away the Fun at Our Annual P & C Colour Run!
Originally postponed from the end of Term 1, we weren’t about to let the ominous skies dampen our spirits. Our annual P & C Colour Run went ahead with full force—and what a vibrant success it was, bursting with laughter, colour, and community spirit.
From our tiniest Preps experiencing their very first Colour Run to our Year 6 students celebrating their final one, the event was a joyful celebration of togetherness. The weather may have looked uncertain, but it didn’t stop our students, staff, and parent volunteers from showing up with enthusiasm and energy.
A special shoutout goes to our student leaders, who took on their first major responsibility with pride and care. They did a fantastic job supporting our Prep to Year 2 students, running alongside them and ensuring they felt safe and included every step of the way. It was heartwarming to see the bonds forming between our youngest and oldest students.
Parents and carers lined the track, cheering and snapping photos as clouds of colour filled the air. Teachers joined in the fun too, some bravely stepping into the colour zones themselves—much to the delight of their students!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Colour Run a success. Rain or shine, our school community knows how to come together and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Under 8’s BIG MORNING OUT – 22 May 2025
Sunshine and Smiles at Under 8’s Day!
The sunshine added to the joy of another fantastic year celebrating our Under 8’s! The day was packed with laughter, creativity, and hands-on fun as our youngest learners enjoyed outdoor games, exciting activities, and special moments with friends and family.
From rice play and biscuit icing to goop, tug-of-war, and a lively disco led by our senior leaders, there was something for everyone. A huge thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers for making the day so memorable.
We were thrilled to welcome even more community agencies this year, with a fantastic spread of services on display. Special thanks to newcomers Ready, Set, Dance by Emma Whybird, Katherine from Whitsunday Waste and Recycling, and the Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre for joining us.
And of course, a big shoutout to our wonderful P & C team for providing every student and staff member with a wholesome sausage and drink—fueling the fun all day long!

Lion’s Vision Screening
We were pleased to welcome the Lions Club to our school for their Vision Screening Program. This valuable initiative provided free eye checks for our Year 1, 3 and 6 students, helping to identify any early vision concerns that may affect learning and development.
The screening was quick, non-invasive, and conducted by trained volunteers using specialised equipment. We thank the Lions Club for their ongoing support of children’s health and wellbeing in our community.

2026 Prep Transition has started

Principal’s Tour
We were thrilled to welcome a wonderful turnout of families to our annual Principal’s Tour, including many familiar faces from Playgroup, looking to find the best start for their child starting Prep in 2026. The enthusiastic group of parents turned up, eager to see our wonderful school in action.
Parents had the chance to explore our vibrant classrooms, meet staff, and see firsthand what makes our school a nurturing and inspiring place to start Prep. We received some very positive feedback stating that it was amazing! Great to see all the classrooms!
Thank you to all who attended—we look forward to welcoming you into our school community in 2026!

Sports News Term 3
Senior Athletics Carnial
What a glorious end to the term with our Senior Athletics Carnival. The crowd settled in nicely around the shady trees for the duration of the day cheering and supporting the students. House captains led their teams, erupting with team war cries. Coloured zinc was not only protecting the skin, but transforming faces into Marvel characters.
The results are close. Who will it be?
A huge thanks to the parents, teachers and students for a wonderful end to the term.
Selected students will be invited to the Proserpine District trials next term on July 25th. A note will follow in Week 1.

REP SPORT
The team sports are near complete, with one special mention to a very talented young man, Cruz Mika representing North Queensland these school holidays at the Under 11s Rugby League State Titles held in Brisbane. Early in Term 2, Cruz represented NQ in Rugby Union again at a State Title in Brisbane. Cruz is a dedicated 11 year old athlete, who not only plays in a team, he is one of the kindest, most humble players you will come across on the field. We wish Cruz and his family all the best throughout this amazing journey and opportunity.
Throughout this term we have seen many other athletes represent at various levels. The Whitsundays were fortunate to host the NQ Touch Football Trials with Mrs Henshaw as the Convenor at the Whitsunday Sports Park. It was a huge success, with Northern region asking for a 3 year contract to bring it here always!! Our Proserpine State School students participated in large numbers with many past students returning to referee for the weekend. We have a vast group of students who are always ready to show their skills and talents across the region. Well done!!!
TEACHER LEADING
Mr Nosworthy has spent many hours this term creating a P-2 and 3-6 Sports Program whereby teachers have had the opportunity to upskill, order equipment and implement rotations for sports afternoons. We cannot wait to see this unfold next term with beautiful outdoor playing weather.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday.

What Happened In General
Year 1 Cannnonvale Beach Excursion
In Week 7, our Year 1 students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the beautiful Airlie Beach Lagoon! The sun was shining, the sky was clear, and the students were full of excitement and curiosity as they explored this special local place.
Throughout the day, the children learned about the natural, managed, and constructed features of the area. They identified palm trees, grassy spaces, garden beds, walking paths, and, of course, the sparkling lagoon itself. They also spent time observing the sky and its changing colours and cloud shapes—linking perfectly with our geography and science learning this term.
Our students asked thoughtful questions, shared their knowledge, and made great connections to what we’ve been learning in the classroom. We were especially proud of the way they represented our school with pride. Their behaviour was outstanding, and they showed kindness, respect, and responsibility at every moment.
A big thank you to the staff and parent helpers who supported the day. It was a meaningful and memorable learning experience for everyone involved!

Year 3 Bredls Excursion
Our Year 3 students enjoyed an exciting and educational day at Bredl’s Wild Farm. The excursion was a valuable opportunity for students to engage with Australian wildlife and deepen their understanding of animal habitats, life cycles, and environmental care.
We started our day with a warm welcome from the Bredl family, followed by an introduction to the farm's native animals. Students had the opportunity to observe, interact and learn about many Australian animals such as crocodiles, snakes, lizards, emus, Koalas and wombats.
To wrap up the day, students shared their favourite experiences and reflected on what they had learned. Many commented on how much they enjoyed being able to interact so closely with the animals, a highlight for most, holding a python, under close supervision.
The excursion supported our Science and English units and helped bring classroom learning to life in a memorable way. A big thank you to our parent volunteers and staff for their support in making the day such a success.

Year 5
Year 5 were fortunate on Thursday May 15, to hear from representatives of the Disaster Management section of the Whitsunday Regional Council. In English this term, students have been learning about informative texts using the topic of natural disasters and alongside in HASS, we have been looking at the way Australian communities are managed, including during natural disasters.
The students were engaged and listening intently and it was great to hear from our special guests how our own local community prepares for a natural disaster. Students also saw the Disaster Dashboard and what information they can gain from accessing it. They also heard strategies to keep themselves calm and safe. Whitsunday Regional Council also left the students with a quiz to complete and discuss in class and a disaster dashboard information sheet to add to their books.
Thanks again, Whitsunday Regional Council!

Year 6
Year 6MD have been studying electric circuits for Science. As a concluding activity the student's had the opportunity to build their own solar powered toy car. Great fun was had by all.

Art
This term Year 4 students were involved in making a collaborative work for the Proserpine Rock Wallaby Festival. A ceramic work designed to represent the fossil record of Proserpine. It was conceived to engage students in the exciting prospect that something that they could make, could make a difference, and possibly even help save a local endangered species.
Our first collaboration was with the Queensland Museum who assisted with identifying significant periods in Proserpine’s prehistoric history that are well documented in the existing fossil record.
Having identified the types of fauna and flora that might have been visible should you have taken a walk; or more likely a swim, through Carboniferous, Cretaceous, and Pliocene Proserpine, the search was on for modern day equivalents. The amazing team at Landcare were extremely generous in scouring their seed library and nursery to provide us with plants that shared characteristics with their ancient plant ancestors.
As well as seeds, the Landcare team also provided us with a cleaned and edited selection of marine debris that had been collected from Conway Beach. We were able to use these items to discuss how the form and content of ‘modern day’ fossils would have differed from the plant and animal remains from prehistoric times.
Once our clay tiles had been imprinted, they were off to the studio of local artist Linda Forrester who then used her magic to transform our white clay into what you see here; a ceramic artwork representing the fossil record of our home: Proserpine.

Students were asked to reflect on the work that they and their peers had produced and below are some of their thoughts:

Be Kinder Badges
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we proudly raised $536 for Be Kinder Day — a heartwarming reminder of the power of kindness in action!

Donations
The school is in desperate need of black shorts for both boys and girls.
We have had many kids needing to be provided with new shirts and shorts for different reasons. Unfortunately this has now depleted our spare clothing supply. If you have any old school shorts/shirts that no longer fit your child, we would absolutely love to take them off your hands.
